GIFTS THAT MAKE FINANCIAL SENSE
The #1 reason people give to non-profit organizations is to support a worthwhile cause and to take
advantage of tax benefits. Even though tax benefits may be way down on the list of reasons to want to
help a charity, it is a direct benefit to both the charity and you. Would you forego an opportunity to
reduce your taxes, or to channel more of your gift to the charity of your choice?
Regardless of your age, income level or financial situation, you may benefit from taking a little time
to consider the best way to give a gift to the causes you hold dear to your heart.
Here are a few ways savvy donors are taking full advantage of tax incentives and making their
charitable gifts go farther.
CASH IS NOT ALWAYS KING... FOR THE DONOR THAT IS!
While it's true writing a check can be the simplest and easiest way to make a charitable
Contribution and derive a tax deduction. Gifts of appreciated securities, real estate and life insurance
policies translate into cash for The Lord's Closet but show the ultimate expression of confidence in
TLC, your local missionary, and may provide you with significant tax benefits.

|
If you own stock that you have held for more than one year, it is almost always more tax-wise to
contribute stock rather than cash.
You:
Avoid paying capital gains tax
Receive a charitable deduction of the full fair market value of the stock
Here is an example of how your gift of appreciated stock could benefit The Lord's Closet:
In 1988, a donor purchased 100 shares of a stock with a cost basis of $ 3.00 per share or $300.00.
Today, that same stock is selling for approximately $ 44.00 per share and that 100 shares are valued at
$4,400.00.
SCENARIO 1:
The donor sells the 100 shares for $ 4,400.00 and will donate the proceeds to The Lord's Closet.
Donor:
Pays a minimum of $ 615.00 capital gains tax
Receives a charitable deduction of $ 3,785.00
The Lord's Closet:
Receives a donation of $ 3,785.00
SCENARIO 2:
The donor transfers the 100 shares of stock directly to The Lord's Closet.
Donor:
Pays $ 0.00 capital gains tax
Receives a charitable deduction of $ 4,400.00 which is the full market value of the stock.
The Lord's Closet:
Receives the stock itself.
Sells the stock and pays a $ 98.00 commission.
Receives a donation of $ 4,302.00
Scenario 2 provides a WIN WIN situation for both the donor as well as The Lord's Closet. A very nice
tax deduction for the donor and a tremendous blessing for The Lord's Closet.
When you really look at the benefits of scenario 2, it's like finding ten prizes in a cracker Jack box.
Instead of sending your profit to the IRS, please send it to The Lord's Closet. To me, it's being
socially responsible. Looking at all the benefits, being responsible, realizing just how much God has
blessed you and given you a love for others is what's behind planned giving.
Giving a gift of appreciated securities, stocks, bonds, life insurance or real estate to The Lord's Closet
ultimately benefits thousands of children and their families. Although there are lots of worthy
causes, The Lord's Closet is local and has been helping local families throughout Central New Jersey
as well as Appalachia since 1989 and still 100% volunteer..
It is not difficult in making decisions to:
Help families and children less fortunate then you.
Help local families and those in my own country.
Deal with a local organization who's Executive Director and Founder is Rev. Wallace J
Crowley Jr., who moved to Hunterdon County in 1955 where his family ran a business for many
years. He has been helping local people since 1968 when he joined Whitehouse Rescue Squad.
He taught first aid, CPR, auto extrication, child birth and defensive driving. He then became a
EMT instructor and was part of the North Hunterdon training team for many years. In 1982 his
first child was born and he resigned from the squad to be a dad. From 1983 to 1989 he was being
trained and mentored for full time ministry. In 1989 he closed the business when God called him
into full time ministry. TLC has been helping local families and families in Appalachia since
1989.
Maximize your contribution by taking full advantage of the tax laws.
As you look at your personal financial assets and plan for the future of those assets, I ask that you
consider what TLC, your local missionary, means to this community. All the work that has been done
since 1989 and how your planned gift will help secure the future of TLC.
Thank you for giving to the Lord's work.

Perhaps you can't afford to make a major contribution now but feel strongly about a cause and want to
leave a legacy. Deferred gifts of cash or property may provide significant benefits for you, your heirs
and The Lord's Closet.
Regardless of your income level, you can make a bequest of cash or property through your will, which
may reduce tax liabilities on your estate.
An arrangement such as a charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder trust may benefit you
today with:
Lifetime income
Lower your taxes and at the same time provide funds so The Lord's Closet can continue their
important work in this community.
Deferred gifts aren't just for the wealthy. They are a wonderful way for anyone to take full advantage
of available tax benefits and build a bright future for generations to come.
We urge you to talk to a tax or investment advisor to determine what type of charitable
giving is best for you. If you're interested in learning more, contact us at 908-534-1777.
Whatever type of gift you might be considering, we hope that when all is said and done you are left
with some extra money in your pocket and a warm feeling in your heart.
The strategies discussed above may have tax or legal implications. Neither The Lord's Closet, its
affiliates, nor its trustees dispense tax or legal advice. You are urged to consult qualified tax and legal
professionals before implementing any of the strategies discussed above.
